FAQs

About Microblading

Microblading is a semi-permanent cosmetic technique designed to enhance the eyebrows. Unlike traditional tattooing, it involves the use of fine, hair-like strokes to replicate the natural pattern of brow hair, creating a realistic, fuller, and more balanced appearance that complements the face.

The procedure is performed with a specialized hand-held tool resembling a pen, fitted with a ‘blade’ made of multiple, precisely aligned needles. The initial appointment includes a thorough consultation to discuss your desired outcome, precise measurements, pre-drawing of the brow shape, color matching, and the microblading application itself. This session typically takes 2 to 3 hours.

Microblading is a two-step process, with a follow-up appointment scheduled 6 to 8 weeks after the initial session to refine the results. On average, the effects of microblading last between 12 to 18 months and can be maintained through regular touch-up sessions.

About Microshading

Microshading, also referred to as Powder or Shaded Brows, is a form of permanent makeup that creates the look of softly filled-in brows, similar to the effect of using brow powder or pencil. This technique utilizes a micro-pigmentation machine to implant pigment more deeply into the skin than traditional microblading, resulting in longer-lasting effects.

Microshading is ideal for individuals with oily skin or those with sparse or minimal brow hair. The final result can be tailored to achieve anything from a light, natural finish to a more defined and dramatic appearance, based on personal preference.

Eligibility for Microblading or Microshading

If you have previously had any tattooing or microblading on your eyebrows, please contact me before booking.

You are not eligible for microblading, microshading, or lip blush procedures if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • History of keloids or hypertrophic scarring

  • Diabetes (requires clearance from your doctor)

  • Undergoing chemotherapy (requires consultation with your doctor)

  • Use of blood-thinning medications

  • Viral infections or diseases

  • Epilepsy

  • Pacemaker or significant heart conditions

  • Organ transplant

  • Rosacea

  • Skin irritations or psoriasis near the treatment area (such as rashes, sunburn, or acne)

  • Current illness (e.g., cold or flu)

  • Recent use of Accutane (within the past year)

  • Heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or compromised general health

  • Any condition, treatment, or medication that affects the immune system or impairs healing

Additional Considerations:

Please note that color retention and final results will vary from person to person. Factors such as sun exposure, skin type, aftercare, lifestyle, and skin tone can all affect the healing process.

  • Oily Skin: Tends to expel pigment more quickly, potentially requiring more frequent touch-ups. The strokes may heal with a slightly blurred effect.

  • Darker Skin: May have less contrast and can heal with a more powdery or solid appearance. Darker skin tones may display less detail in the final result.

  • Mature Skin (60+): Skin is generally finer, more delicate, and thinner, which may lead to some loss of detail, discoloration, or blurring.

If you have any questions about your suitability for the procedure, please contact me for further clarification.

How to Ensure Optimal Healed Results

To achieve the best possible results from your procedure, please follow these aftercare instructions carefully:

  • Minimize Water Exposure: You may shower or bathe, but avoid getting your brows wet. Refrain from using harsh soaps or shampoos on the treated area, and do not allow the shower to spray directly on your face for 10-14 days (until all scabs have naturally fallen off). This will help the pigment bond properly to the skin.

  • Avoid Picking or Scratching: Do not pick or scratch at any dry or flaking skin; let it shed naturally. Picking can cause scarring and may remove pigment along with the scab. Once the flakes have fallen off, a shiny layer of healing skin will cover the hair strokes, which will gradually reappear at a lighter shade over 1-2 weeks.

  • Do Not Apply Makeup or Topicals: Refrain from applying makeup to the treated area for the first 10-14 days. Avoid using Vaseline, Neosporin, or other petroleum-based products during this time.

  • Avoid Chemical Treatments: Do not bleach, tint, or dye the brow area for one month following the procedure. Also, avoid anti-acne products (such as Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, or Proactiv) and lightening creams (such as hydroquinone) on the treated area while healing.

  • Steer Clear of Harsh Ingredients: Do not use facial products containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs), Retin-A, Lactic Acid, or Glycolic Acid near the treated area during the healing period.

  • Refrain from Hair Removal: Do not thread, wax, or use hair removal products on the brow area while it is healing.

  • Avoid Excessive Sweating: Refrain from exercising or activities that cause excessive sweating one day before your procedure and for 10 days after. Sweating can cause the pigment to blur or be pushed out.

  • Limit Sun and Water Exposure: Avoid sun exposure, swimming pools, jacuzzis, saunas, or any other bodies of water for two weeks. Do not submerge your brows in water during this time.

Adhering to these guidelines will help ensure your brows heal properly, maintaining their desired color, shape, and definition.

How long before an event should I book my appointment?

I recommend new clients book their first session at least 3-4 months before vacations or special events. This allows time for the initial application to heal as well as the touch-up appointment 4-6 weeks after.
